Dynamic DNS Client .NET Edition

Installation

Get the latest version of Dynamic DNS Client .NET Edition from http://www.sitedevelopers.com/ and follow the installation process provided with the software.

You will also need the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, which is available through Windows Update or here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/technologyinfo/howtoget/.

Finally, you will need to download our configuration file.

Netscape 6.x users should right click on that link and choose Save Link As....

Copy the configuration file to the program directory, which is usually C:\Program Files\SiteDevelopers.com\Dynamic DNS Client .NET Edition - XXX (where "XXX" is either "Service", "Desktop" or "Lite", depending on which version of the client you installed.)

Configuration

NOTE: All of these instructions assume a standard installation. If you installed the software in a non-standard location, then some of the information below will need to be modified to reflect your set-up.

Once you have installed the program, launch it. Click on the "Accounts" tab.

Click the "Add" button to add an account (i.e. domain name for dynamic service). This will load the "Service Configuration" window. From the "Service" drop down, look for the bellnet.svc file you downloaded above.

Then, complete the rest of the screen as follows:

  • Description can be anything you want, but we recommend you set it to the name of the dynamic host you are configuring.
  • Active should be checked.
  • Username should be your username on bell.easyDNS.ca.
  • Password is your password on bell.easyDNS.ca (note that the password is not displayed)
  • hostname is the full domain name you want to configure for dynamic DNS updates.
  • wildcard should be set to ON if you want *.yourdomain.com to be updated at the same time that the hostname above is updated.

So, if you wanted to set up dynammic DNS for dynamic.example.com and the wildcard record *.example.com, the service configuration window will look like this:

When you are finished, click Save to return to the main program window, and click the "Status" tab. Your account will be listed in the status listing:

Right-click on your account and choose "Online" from the drop-down list. This will turn your account on (i.e. dynamic updates will be set for this domain).

When the domain next updates (you can right-click and choose "Forced Online" to force an update), the Status column will read either "success" or "failure". If the update failed, you can right-click and choose "Report" to see why and make any required corrections to your account settings.
